Men's basketball tames Triceratops

The NJCAA's 10th ranked Lakeland Lakers traveled to Cuyahoga Community College tonight to face off against the Triceratops. In a hard fought game, the Lakers defeated Tri-C by a final of 88-79. With the win, the Lakers improve to 12-1 on the year and 4-0 in conference play. This was a game that was close throughout. Lakeland road a 20 point 1st half explosion from Jareon Mayo to take a 37-31 lead at the break. In the second half, Tri-C made some defensive adjustments and the Lakers took advantage by having a more balanced attack. In the second half, Alex Benson led the way with 13 points while Bishop Thomas added 10 points. For the game, the Lakers shot just 12 free throws (making 6) while Cuyahoga shot 24 free throws. Despite that, Lakeland's consistent play was able to handle the Triceratops for the win.

Jareon Mayo led the way for the Lakers with 29 points. Alex Benson finished his evening with 17 points while Bishop Thomas picked up 12 points for Lakeland. Ansoumane Oulare added 8 points while Justin Covington picked up 6 points. Brandon Lane chipped in 4 points in the Laker win.

Next Up: The Lakers will return home pn Saturday (1/20) as they will host the Eagles of Clark State. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 pm.
