Lakers men's soccer falls to Chargers

The Lakeland men's soccer team played host to the Ancilla Chargers today in their home opener and dropped a 6-1 decision to the Chargers. The Lakers record is now 1-1 in region XII play. The Chargers got on the board just 4 minutes into the match as they scored off a nice cross to take the 1-0 lead. The Chargers would do the same thing again with 13 minutes to play in the half and take a 2-0 advantage into the break.

Lakeland would cut the lead in half at the 36 minute mark of the 2nd half as Edgar Camarillo took control of a cross and then beat a defender before firing a shot past the Ancilla goalie. Unfortunately for the Lakers, Ancilla would convert on a penalty kick 10 minutes later and then cruise to the victory.

Dominic Grobler was credited with 3 saves in goal for the Lakers.

Coach Mayer commented after the game,"We were inconsistent with our effort today and just did not come ready to play. There were some individual efforts that stood out, but ultimately we weren't ready to go as a team.  We have a stretch now where we can work on some things - I'm looking forward to our continued development."

Next Up: Terra State has cancelled their season and so, as of now, the Lakers next regularly scheduled match is Tuesday (9/13) against Lorain County at Laker Field. The match is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm.
