Men's soccer falls to Jayhawks

The Lakeland Lakers men's soccer team played host to the Muskegon Jayhawks and suffered a hard-fought 3-0 loss. MCC struck quickly as they scored an opening goal just a minute into the game.  On the play, the Muskegon player got free just inside the 18 and rifled a shot into the corner of the net. The Lakers continued to battle and minutes later had an outstanding scoring opportunity. On this play, the Lakers forced a turnover at about the 15 yard line and then shot just wide on an open net. Minutes later, the Lakers were whistled for a foul at their 22 yard line and Muskegon was able to chip a shot over the wall and just under the crossbar giving them a 2-0 lead. Again, the Lakers continued to battle and had another outstanding opportunity moments later. On the play, the Lakers again got free and had a shot again just sail wide on an open goal. Both teams would have additional chances, but the teams would go into the break with the Lakers trailing 2-0. The second half was a very physical half for both teams. There were 24 total fouls called in the game. Both teams would try to create offensive opportunities with aggressive attacks and counter attacks. Lakeland would lose a player and play a man down after being whistled for 2 yellows with 22 minutes to play. The Jayhawks would score their final goal with 5 minutes to play on a direct kick. Till Oppermann was credited with 7 saves in goal for the Lakers. Michel Klein and Josue Rodriguez-Cisneros led the Lakers with 2 shots each.
