The Lakeland softball team played host to the Edison State Chargers today and dropped both ends of a doubleheader by the scores of 15-5 and 11-1. In game 1, the Chargers opened with a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. The Lakers scored their first run in the home half of the inning. Tatianna Matuz led off with a single and scored on a RBI double from Astianna Coppes. The Lakers bats went quiet for the next couple of innings while the Chargers added runs on scoring 4 in the 2nd and 2 more in the 3rd inning. Trailing 8-1 in the bottom of the 4th inning, the Lakers made a game of it. Samantha Toke worked a 2-out walk. Gina Grandini then hit a double that the Charger left fielder misplayed allowing both runners to score. Matuz then walked before Astianna Coppes ripped a 2-run home run to bring the Lakers within striking distance at 8-5. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they were unable to hold the Chargers down as they scored 7 runs in the top of the 5th inning that the Lakers could not recover from. Astianna Coppes led the way for the Lakers going 2-3 with 3 RBI's. Gina Grandini also went 2-3 with 2 RBI's. Tatianna Matuz went 2-2 while Micaha Marbury picked up a hit in the Laker loss. Tatianna Matuz started on the mound and took the Laker loss. Lily Seay relieved for Lakeland.

In game 2, the Lakers were unable to string hits together in the defeat. The Lakers managed just 4 hits in game 2. Lakeland's lone run was scored in the 4th inning when Tatianna Matuz doubled and later scored on a RBI single from Catherine Heckman. Gina Grandini and Astianna Coppes also picked up hits for the Lakers. Lily Seay started and took the loss and Samantha Toke pitched in relief for the Lakers.

Next Up: The Lakers are scheduled to host the Clark State Eagles on Monday (5/1). First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
