Softball drops DH at Triceratops

The Lakeland softball team traveled to Cuyahoga today to face the Triceratops in a doubleheader. The Lakers came up short in a first game slugfest by a score of 13-8 before dropping the nightcap 10-2. The Lakers spotted Tri-C a 9-0 lead in game one before fighting back. It started in the 3rd inning with a lead off triple from Gina Grandini. Tatianna Matuz promptly followed with an RBI-single. After Astianna Coppes singled, Kennedy Danna ripped a 2-RBI triple. The Lakers would add another run in the 4th inning. Samantha Toke hit a lead off triple and later scored on a hit from Coppes. Trailing 11-4 entering the top of the 6th, Lakeland scored 3 more runs to cut the lead to 11-7. Tatianna Matuz doubled and later scored on a triple from Astianna Coppes. Micaha Marbury followed with an RBI-double and she scored on an RBI-single from Catherine Heckman. The Lakers would add another run in the top of the 7th inning as Samantha Toke scored. Lakeland pounded out 13 hits in the defeat. Astianna Coppes, Gina Grandini, Tatianna Matuz, Kennedy Danna, and Catherine Heckman each picked up 2 hits and at least 1 RBI for the Lakers. Coppes and Danna had 2 RBI's. Micaha Marbury, Lily Seay, and Samantha Toke also picked up hits in the loss. Lily Seay took the loss on the mound for the Lakers.

Game 2 had a different feel as the Lakers defense contributed to 8 unearned runs. After falling behind, the Lakers scored their two runs in the 3rd inning. Gina Grandini led off with a triple and scored on a Tatianna Matuz RBI-single. Matuz later scored on an RBI-single from Astianna Coppes. Gini Grandini led the way going 2-3 for the Lakers. Tatianna Matuz, Astianna Coppes, Micaha Marbury, Kennedy Danna, Reagan Hayes, and Catherine Heckman all picked up hits for the Lakers. Matuz took the loss on the mound allowing 10 runs - but only 2 earned.

Next Up: The Lakers travel to Springfield, OH on Saturday to finish out their season in a doubleheader against Clark State. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
