Softball drops pair

The Lakeland softball team continued their southern trip and dropped a pair of games against the NJCA #1 ranked Parkland College and Spoon River Community College. The Lakers fell to Parkland 11-0 before dropping the nightcap 14-6. In game 1, Parkland controlled the play as they jumped out early taking advantage of Lakeland's defensive miscues. Lakeland mustered 3 hits in the game as Astianna Coppes, Lillyan Agostine, and Lily Seay each picked up singles in the loss. Leah Richter pitched 3 inings allowing 8 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits. Peyton Trick relieved and threw 1 inning allowing 3 unearned runs.

In game 2, the Lakers were able to get a lead before Spoon River exploded for 9 runs. Spoon River would have a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the 2nd inning when the Lakers fought back and took a 3-2 lead. The Lakers took advantage of Spoon Rivers miscues as Lillyan Agostine reached on an error. Agostine would later score on another defensive error. Megan Szczecinski would then get hit by a pitch before Carmen Alvarez hit a 2-run homer. In the top of the 3rd inning, Spoon River would plate 3 runs to take a 5-3 lead. Lakeland answered right back with 3 more runs to take a 6-5 lead after 3 innings. In the inning, Astianna Coppes hit a leadoff homerun. Midaliz Alvarez would later double and advance to 3rd on an error made on a batted ball from Reagan Hayes. After Hayes stole 2nd base, Abby Haydu would follow by hitting another ball that Spoon River couldn't handle to score M. Alvarez. Lillyan Agostine would then follow with an RBI-single scoring Hayes. The Lakers would keep the 6-5 lead until the top of the 5th inning when Spoon River would take control and put the game out of reach.

Carmen Alvarex went 2-3 with a homerun and 2 RBI's. Astianna Coppes also went 2-3 collecting a homerun and 1 RBI. Lillyan Agostine, Abby Haydu, Midaliz Alvarez, and Peyton Trick each picked up a hit for the Lakers. Lily Seay threw 4 innings allowing 9 runs (8 earned) on 9 hits. Leah Richter pitched 1 inning and allowed 5 runs (0 earned).  

Next Up: The Lakers will continue their southern trip with a doubleheader against Wisconsin-Plateville JV.
