Lakers softball sweeps Express

The Lakeland softball team traveled to Owens Community College today to play the Express in OCCAC action. The Lakers continued their strong play as they swept the Express by the scores of 13-1 and 14-1. The streaking Lakers have won 5 of their last 6 games. In game 1, Lakeland pounded out 19 hits in rolling to the victory. The Lakers jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. Carmen Alvarez led off with a single and promptly stole second base. C. Alvarez then scored on a single from Peyton Trick. Astianna Coppes singled before Midaliz Alvarez hit a 3-run home run. The 5th run was scored when Lillyan Agostine singled and went to second on an Owens error. Agostine advanced to third base on an Abby Haydu single and then scored on a sac fly from Reagan Hayes. The Lakers scored 4 more in the 3rd inning to put the game out of reach. Haydu hit a 1-out single and went to 3rd on a double by Hayes. After Lily Seay walked to load the bases, Haydu scored on a fielder's choice from Kennedy Danna. Carmen Alvarez, Peyton Trick, and Astianna Coppes then all hit consecutive RBI-singles for the Lakers. The Lakers tacked on 4 more runs in the 4th inning. Lillyan Agostine doubled and later scored on a Reagan Hayes double. Hayes would later score on a RBI-single from Kennedy Danna. After a single from C. Alvarez, Peyton Trick and Astianna Coppes would follow with back-to-back RBI singles.

Peyton Trick finished 4-4 with 3 RBI's while Astianna Coppes went 3-4 with 2 RBI's. Carmen Alvarez went 3-4 with an RBI and both Reagan Hayes (2-2B) and Kennedy Danna picked up 2 hits and 2 RBI's. Midaliz Alvarez had a home run and 3 RBI's while Lillyan Agostine and Abby Haydu each picked up 2 hits for the Lakers. Peyton Trick picked up the win and went the distance on the mound allowing 1 earned run on 3 hits while striking out 2 batters.

Lakeland picked up right where they left off to start game 2 as they scored 4 runs in each of the first three innings. Carmen Alvarez started the game with a leadoff home run. Peyton Trick followed with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Lillyan Agostine later hit a 2-out single and advanced when Abby Haydu reached on an error. Both would score on a Reagan Hayes double.  In the top of the 2nd inning, C. Alvarez hit a 1-out triple and scored on a wild pitch. Astianna Coppes would then work a 2-out walk and advance when Midaliz Alvarez reached on an error. Coppes would later score on a wild pitch. M. Alvarez would later score on an Express error before Reagan Hayes plated Agostine with an RBI-single. In the 3rd inning, Kennedy Danna led off with a single and then stole both second and third base. Danna then scored on a Carmen Alvarez RBI-single. C. Alvarez stole second and then scored on a single from M. Alvarez. Agostine was then hit by a pitch and Abby Haydu reached on an error to load the bases for Reagan Hayes who delivered a 2 RBI-single. Lakeland tacked a run on in the 4th inninng as Kennedy Danna hit a triple and later scored on a fielder's choice from C. Alvarez. The Lakers final run was scored in the 5th inning when Lillyan Agostine singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. Agostine later scored on a RBI-single from Hayes.

Reagan Hayes led the Lakers finishing the game going 4-4 (2B) with 6 RBI's. Carmen Alvarez finished a double short of the cycle while adding 3 RBI's. Kennedy Danna, Lillyan Agostine, and Peyton Trick each had 2 hits while Midaliz Alvarez had a hit and RBI for the Lakers. Lily Seay picked up the win on the mound allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 2 batters.

Next Up: The Lakers will travel to league foe Cuyahoga on Tuesday (4/23) to face off against the Triceratops.The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3:00 pm.
