The Lakeland women's basketball team traveled to Lorain County on Saturday and used a balanced scoring attack to come away with a 102-49 victory. With the win, Lakeland improves to 4-0 on the season. The Lakers got off to a bit of a slow start as they were unable to connect on several early shots; fortuntely for the Lakers, the Commodores weren't faring much better. As Lakeland has shown several times already in this young season, they are capable of going on a dominating run - and they are very capable of doing it in a hurry. With the Lakers trailing 6-5 midway thru the 1st quarter, the Lakers flipped the switch. In under a 3 minute span, Lakeland would go on a 12-0 run that would give them the commanding lead that they would not relinquish. It started on a Zion Fussell steal and layup to give the Lakers the lead back at 7-6. Delaney Sullivan was then fouled on a defensive rebound. Sullivan drained both free throws to up the score to 9-6. A minute later, Madison Fueger had a steal and a layup to make it 11-6. After a Micaha Marbury defensive rebound, Fueger scored again in close for the Lakers. Lorain's next possession resulted in a missed 3-point attempt and the Lakers' Zion Fussell connnected on a layup. The Lakers would then force a Commodore turnover and Gianna Pegoraro would hit a quick jumpshot to extend the lead to 17-6. Lakeland would finish the period with a 28-15 lead and never look back in the convincing win.

The Lakers had seven players finish with double digit scoring. Gianna Pegoraro would lead the way as she finshed the afternoon with 22 points and 11 rebounds. Pegoraro would add 6 assists and 6 steals to help key the win. Madison Fueger also recorded a double-double as she finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Fueger added 6 assists and 7 steals in the game. Delaney Sullivan finished with 16 points and 4 steals while both Mya James and Zion Fussell finished with 12 points for the Lakers. Fussell also kicked in 4 rebounds and 6 steals.  Alesia Marshall scored 11 points on 3-3 shooting outside the arc while Domunique Wright also added 11 points by shooting 5-7 from the line.

Gardy's Gab: "We were able to play at a pretty fast pace the entire first half. That really set the tone for the game as we forced several turnovers - 42 for the game. It was a really good team offensive effort and I was pleased with our aggressive defensive effort overall."

Next Up: The Lakers will use the next week to get healthy again and prepare for a rematch against St. Clair County in the Skippers home tournament. Lakeland defeated the Skippers on 11/4 at Laker Gym by a score of 70-61. The teams are scheduled to face off on Friday (11/18) at 6:00 pm. On Saturday, the Lakers will play Kalamazoo Valley at 11:00 am.
