Women's basketball cages Bobcats

The Lakeland women's basketball team traveled to Ursuline College tonight to face off against the Bryant & Stratton Bobcats. The Lady Lakers used a devasting 2nd and 3rd quarter to roll to the 77-64 win to improve their record to 11-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Lakeland got off to an inconsistent start in the first quarter as they shot just 40% from the field and 60% from the line while committing 4 turnovers. They trailed by as many as 7 points in the quarter before battling back to knot the score at 18 at the end of the period. The Lakers then used a suffocating defense that forced several Bobcat turnovers and rushed shots that gave the Lakers a 15 point edge at the break, 47-32. Lakeland continued the strong defensive play in the 3rd quarter as they forced 6 turnovers and kept the Bobcat shooting percentage under 14% as they expanded their lead to 67-39 at the end of the quarter. The Lakers maintained at least a 20 point lead through most of the 4th quarter as they eased to the win.

The Lakers were led by Madison Fueger's double-double as she scored 20 points and added 10 rebounds. Zion Fussell scored 17 points off the bench and added 5 steals while Mya James finished with 15 points. Gianna Pegoraro collected 9 points and a team high 6 steals while Alesia Marshall had a balanced game adding 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Makayla Gordon recorded 4 points and 6 rebounds while Micaha Marbury added 4 points and 5 rebounds in the Lakers win.

Next Up: The Lakers will try to get healthier over the holiday break before their next game at Erie Community College on January 7th. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00pm.
