The Lakeland women's basketball team played host to the Lorain County Commodores in league action tonight. The Lakers jumped out to a quick start and coasted to a 103-47 victory. With the win, the Lakers improve to 13-2 overall (3-0 in OCCAC). Lakeland jumped out early as they played a strong half court defense. The Lakers defense had constant ball pressure and forced numerous Commodore turnovers which led to many quick transition baskets for Lakeland. The Lakers also had a strong presence on the boards as they allowed very few second chance scoring opportunities. Lakeland's overall tempo and defense allowed them to jump out to a 31-6 first quarter lead. From there, the Lakers coasted to the victory.

Lakeland had 6 players finish in double figures. Madison Fueger led the way with 20 points while Mya James had a strong night with 18 points. Zion Fussell and Lauren Perry each scored 17 points for the Lakers. Makayla Gordon added 12 points while Alesia Marshall recorded 10 points in the game. Gianna Pegoraro just missed being the 7th player in double figures as she finished with 9 points in the Lakers win.

Gardy's Gab: "We were able to jump out early on them which allowed us to gain a lot of momentum and control of the game. I was pleased with our half court defense. Give credit to Lorain though - they were short-handed tonight and still came out and battled hard.  They made some nice shots and didn't quit - hats off to them."

Mext Up: The Lakers will travel to Springfield, Ohio on Saturday to face the Clark State Eagles.  The game is scheduled to tip at 3:00 pm.
