The Lakeland women's basketball team traveled to Oakland Community College today and came away with their first win of the year, a 68-41 win over the Raiders. With the win, the Lakers record now stands at 1-1. Lakeland led throughout as they held a 1 point lead at the end of the first quarter before expanding the lead to 8 at the half, 33-25. After both teams played an even 3rd quarter, the Lakers exploded in the 4th quarter outscoring the Raiders 24-5. The key to the game for Lakeland was the defensive pressure that they maintained throughout the game. The Lakers were able to force numerous turnovers which led to transition baskets and more quality scoring chances.

Mya James (23 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals) and Lauren Perry (21 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 steals) led the way for the Lakers. Carly James also had a strong night with 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 steals in the Lakeland win. Layla Von Berndt and Batoul Khaleefah each added 4 points for the Lakers. Khaleefah also added 6 rebounds.

Gardy's Gab: "We came out with a lot more energy today and were able to sustain it most of the game. Defensively, we played well and really put a lot of pressure on them. It was a real team effort - everyone worked hard to help us achieve the win. We've got a little time now so we can work on some things before our home opener next week."

Next Up: The Lakers will play their home opener next Saturday (11/11) against the Erie Community College Kats. Tip off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
