Women's basketball falls to Skippers

The Lakeland women's basketball team continued their trek at St. Clair County CC as they faced the host Skippers in Region 12 action today. The Lakers ran into a buzz saw as they were in frequent foul trouble and fell to the Skippers by a score of 83-62. With the defeat, the Lakers record now stands at 2-3. The Skippers jumped out to an early lead and kept the Lakers at bay for the rest of the quarter as they led Lakeland 16-12 at the end of the first period. In the second period, the Lakers struggled shooting from both the field and the line. With that, the Skippers took advantage and led 44-26 at the break. Lakeland would continue to battle and made a strong push in the 3rd quarter to get back into the game. The Lakers would cut the lead to 10 points on a couple of occassions in the 3rd quarter, but were unable to get closer. The Skippers would then finish the game out strong as they beat the Lakers.

Lakeland shot 35% (25-71) from the field, 10% from the arc (2-20), and 52% from the line (10-19).

Gardy's Gab: "We struggled with keeping consistent energy today. Every time we would start to get a push of momentum, we'd make some mistakes and be unable to continue the roll. We struggled with foul trouble and that also put us at a disadvantage. We'll learn from this, regroup and come back ready to play our next one."

Next Up: The Lakers will play host to the Schoolcraft Ocelots on Tuesday (11/21). The game is scheduled to tip at 5:00 pm.
