After a lengthy layoff, the Lakeland women's basketball team got back into action as they traveled to Buffalo, NY today to face the Erie Kats. The Lakers wasted no time as they took control early before cruising to the 70-31 victory. Lakeland used a strong defensive effort in the first quarter that forced the Kats into many difficult shots and turnovers. The Lakers took advantage of that and held a commanding 16-3 lead at the end of the first period. Lakeland freely subbed as they took advantage of the Kats winning each quarter of play during the game.

Lakeland had three players finish in double digit scoring. Lauren Perry led the way scoring 23 points. Perry also added 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 5 assists. Trinity Jackson finished just shy of a double-double as she collected 16 points and 9 rebounds. Mya James finished her afternoon with 10 points while both Batoul Khaleefah and Carly James added 6 rebounds. Monica Devine had a strong game finishing with 6 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. Layla Von Berndt picked up 6 points and 4 rebounds while Hilda Ismail chipped in 2 points and 5 rebounds in the Lakers win.

Gardy's Gab: "We were able to play an aggressive half-court defense which created 17 turnovers in the first half. We've been off for a couple of weeks due to some cancellations - that played a part of some of our play during periods of the game. However, our team effort and energy were the key to the win. It was good to play again - we'll keep working as we get ready for league play to start again soon."

Next Up: The Lakers will play host to the Jamestown Falcons next Saturday (1/13). Tip off is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
