The injury-riddled Lakeland women's basketbal team traveled to Edison State today to faceoff against the Chargers. In a hard fought contest, the Lakers would fall to the Chargers by a score of 86-71. With the loss, the Lakers record falls to 7-8 and 4-3 in conference play. The first quarter was a period of runs as Edison State forced some early turnovers to take a quick 8 point lead.  Lakeland battled back though and would hold a 6 point lead later in the quarter. The Chargers would then go on another run and eventually took an 18-16 lead as they hit a last second bucket to close the period. In the second quarter, Lakeland would succomb to the Express offensive pressure and Lakeland went into the break trailing 45-28. In the 3rd quarter, the Lakers came out with good energy and battled back into the game. Lakeland won the quarter, 29-23, to cut the Chargers lead to 11 at the end of the period. In the end, the injuries proved too much to overcome as the Lakers fell to the Chargers.

Lakeland had 3 players finish in double digits. Lauren Perry led the way with 28 points while Mya James and Trinity Jackson each recorded 18 points for the Lakers. Layla Von Berndt added 7 points for the Lakers in the loss.

Gardy's Gab: "This was a tough game. Edison State is a good team that's well coached and we just were unable to keep them under wraps the whole game. Being down a couple of players due to injury this week was difficult to overcome. No excuses though as we have to get back at it in practice this week. A back-to-back weekend with Clark State will be a good challenge for us next weekend."

Next Up: The Lakers will play host to the Clark State Eagles on Friday (2/9) in Laker Gym. This game is the makeup from the January 20th game that was postponed due to weather. The tipoff is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
