Lakers kick off season with win over Commodores

The Lakeland women's soccer team kicked off their season today with a convincing 10-0 win over the Lorain County Community College Commodores. Lakeland took control early in this match as Rae Sirl netted her first collegiate goal at the 3:45 mark. From there, Lakeland controlled play, but the Commodores fought off the opportunites until Molly Vitcusky netted her first collegiate goal at the 32:84 mark. The flood gates then opened before the half as Lakeland scored 3 more goals in under 8 minutes as Aria Evans-Roskos, Makayla Bolon, and Bridgette Karr all netted their first collegiate goals. The second half was more of the same as Lakeland controlled the field for most of the game. Evans-Roskos and Sirl netted their second goals of the afternoon early in the half before Mya Cannaday netted her first collegiate goal at the 69:48 mark. Sophomore Michel Molina picked up the other two goals of the half to help the Lakers sail to the victory.

Sarah Turniski had 2 saves in picking up her first career shutout.

Sivik Sentiments: "I was very pleased with our game today. We had a balanced attack and our defense minimized opportunities on our goal. Between our returning players and our incoming freshman, we are starting to see the making of a solid product on the field."

Next up: The Lady Lakers (1-0) will travel to Muskegeon Community College on Saturday (8/21) for a 2 pm kick off against the Jayhawks.
