The Lady Lakers soccer team played host to the NJCAA DII women's soccer 11th ranked Muskegon Community College Jayhawks on Saturday and suffered a 9-0 defeat. With the loss, the Lakers fall to 5-6 on the season. This was a tough game from the onset for the Lakers as the Jayhawks controlled most of the play throughout. The Lakers were outshot by 26 and outcornered by 10 during the match. Sammy Hecht led the way for the Jayhawks as she netted two goals - th first one at the 12 minute mark and the last one oin the 83rd minute. The Lakers battled throughout the game, but were just outmanned due to team injuries. Their defense style did limit the score to 3-0 at the half before the Jayhwaks exploded offensively in the second period.

Defensively, the Lakers really worked hard as Molly Vitkusky (St. Peter's HS), Rae Sirl (Eastlake North), Michell Molina (Heritage Christian), and Mercedes Tabler (Jefferson HS) all made several oustanding efforts and plays. Sarah Turniski (Willoughby South) also had a strong game in net as she finished with 15 saves.

Sivik's Sentiments: "It certainly was a difficult game as Muskegon is a very good team. However, I was pleased with our girls efforts in light of the number of injuries that we currently have. Hopefully, we can get a little more healthy in the coming week as we have some key games coming up. Overall, the team played hard and I was especially pleased with Michell (Molina), Rae (Sirl), and Sarah's (Turniski) efforts."

Next up: The Lakers will host back to back games next weekend as they will welcome the Skippers from St. Clair County Community College on Friday (10/15) at 2pm before finishing their home slate against the Jackson Community College Jets on Saturday (10/16) at 1pm. Second season players will be honored on Friday prior to kick-off.
