Women's soccer downs Commodores

The Lakeland women's soccer team traveled to Lorain County Community College to face the Commodores and came away with a 2-1 victory today. With the win, the Lakers improved to 5-5-1 on the season. Earlier this season, the two teams played to a 2-2 draw. Today, the Lakers controlled much of the game as their midfielders - Kassie Emmett, Ashlen Horowski, and Mercedes Tabler - had outstanding play. Though the Lakers controlled the pace of play, neither team was able to score before the break. In the second half, Lakeland got on the board first when Horowski connected on a pass from Carli Salatino. About a minute later, the Commodores broke through scoring off of a rebound on a free kick. Later in the half, Christina Vanah scored on a breakaway set up on a pass from Gina Grandini

The Lakers allowed 3 shots on goal as the defense of Molly Vitcusky, Carli Salatino, Amijah Simons, and Natalie Pawlowski clamped down on the Commodores forwards. The Lakers players of the game were Molly Vitcusky, Lila Malkamaki, Ashlen Horowski, and Christina Vanah.

Next Up: On Saturday (10/15), the Lakers will travel to Sports Force Park to play the Terra State Titans in a 1:00 pm match.
