Lakers volleyball grounds Falcons

The Lakeland volleyball team traveled to Jamestown Community College to take on the Falcons in non-league action on Thursday night. The Lakers would not be denied in this match as they defeated the Falcons 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-18). The Lakers have been working on some changes to their formation that paid divedends in this match. Tory Leck, Lindsey Fergus, and Kaitlynn Minark did an excellent job in their rotations and they were able to cover many tips from the Falcons. Maisie Burlison, and Erica Merth controlled much of the middle while Astianna Coppes and Madison Tatka took care of the outside for the Lakers. Tatianna Matuz' all-around play also helped key the victory.

Maisie Burlison led the way for the Lakers as she finished 13 kills and 9 solo blocks. Erica Merth also had an outstanding match as she finished with 18 kills and 7 blocks. Madison Tatka finished with 9 kills while Astianna Coppes chipped in 8 kills, 2 aces, and a block. Kaitlin Minarik finished with 8 digs in the match and Tory Leck added 4 digs in the win. Tatianna Matuz finished with 31 assists on the night.

Coach Miozzi commented after the game, "I'm really proud of the way the team has battled all year. We have had some tough matches, but the team has not given up. They continue to work hard in practice and their efforts paid off tonight. Everyone played a part in tonights win.  We have another rivalry game coming this weekend and so we're going to have to get right back at it quickly."

Next Up: The Lakers travel to Cuyahoga Community College on Saturday in a rematch of Wednesday night's match. Game time is scheduled for 11:00am.
