Lakers volleyball grounded by Golden Eagles

The Lakeland women's volleyball team traveled to Kent State Tuscarwaras tonight and dropped a 3-0 decision to the Golden Eagles. The scores of the game were 25-20, 25-17, and 28-26. With the defeat, the Lakers record evens at 1-1. The games were tight throughout and concluded with a hardfought final game that went extra. The Lakers played strong defense, but were unable to capitalize on thier opportunities to close out the match. 

Lakeland was led by Kaitlynn Minarik who recorded 8 kills, 11 digs, 2 blocks and 2 aces. Astianna Coppes also had a strong game with 18 assists, 6 digs, and 2 aces. Erica Merth controlled much of the net with 7 kills and 5 blocks while Arion Brown finished with 6 kills in the contest.

Watts' Word: "Progress makes prominence! Though we didn't get the W, we were very competitive. We just couldn't close out our opportunities. We need to clean up on our unforced errors. We'll keep working, and if we do that, we'll be successful."

Next Up: On Saturday (8/26), the Lakers will play in a tri-match at Erie Community College in New York. The Lakers will play Butler County Community College at 1:00pm and then face off against host Erie Community College at 3:00pm.
