The Lakeland volleyball team played host to the Kent State Tuscarawas Golden Eagles tonight and dropped a hard fought 3-0 decision. The scores of the game were 26-24, 25-22, and 25-15. With the loss the Lakers record now stands at 3-7. This match was a back and forth battle in game one. The Lakers held a 6 point lead at one point before being undone by a few consecutive unforced errors. Once the Golden Eagles caught up, the Lakers were unable to hold them off and so fell in game 1. Game 2 was a different story as this time the Lakers found themselves down by 8 points. Lakeland fought back and made it a 2 point game down the stretch. The Lakers momentum and pressure forced the Golden Eagles to use all of their timeouts. Unforunately, the Lakers were unable to finish the comeback. In game 3, the Golden Eagles carried the play as they closed out the match.

Arion Brown led the Lakers with 8 kills (.353 hitting efficiency) and 2 blocks. Astianna Coppes had a solid all-around game with 14 assists, 11 digs, 4 kills, and 1 block.

Lakeland players of the game were Arion Brown on offense and Lindsey Fergus on defense.

Watts' Word: "We need to learn how to finish...focus for all 25 points. We have to be able to protect our serves. We are growing and developing. We're getting better and everyone sees it - we just need to take another step. We will keep working and keep improving. "

Next Up: On Saturday (9/9), the Lakers will host the Owens Express. The match is scheduledto begin at 11:00 am.
