The Lakeland volleyball team traveled to Jamestown tonight to face off again the Jayhawks. The Lakers took a hard fought 3-0 decison by the scores of 25-20, 25-21, and 25-23. The Lakers stepped up in many facets of the game today, but the one area that they really improved in was their serving. In the first set the Lakers recorded a couple of aces. In set 2, they recorded 5 aces while they picked up 6 aces in the 3rd set. The outstanding serving kept the Jayhawks off balance and allowed the Lakers to get into a good offensive flow and finish strong.

The Lakers played as a team today as several players made key plays throughout. Astianna Coppes led the way with 19 assists, 10 kills, 8 digs, 2 aces, and a block. Erica Merth picked up 9 kills (.438 hitting efficency), 5 blocks, 2 aces, and 3 digs. Allison Hendrick finished with 15 assists, 3 digs, and an ace while Rebecca Ferrell added 12 digs and 11 serve receptions. Lindsey Fergus recorded 9 digs and 9 serve receptions in the Lakers win.

The Lakers Astianna Coppes was named player of the game for her overall play.

Watts' Words: "Today was a nice win for the team. We really played as a team, we talked, and we were able to finish. We were able to keep our heads when our opponents went on runs. That was a nice step forward. We made great plays and took some risks staying aggressive. Our serving also really came up huge today."  

Next Up:  The Lakers have a lengthy break as Hocking College cancelled their season thus giving the Lakers essentially a bye this weekend. The Lakers next match will be against Terra State on Saturday, 9/23. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
