Lakers volleyball fall to Eagles

The Lakeland volleyball team played host to the Clark State Eagles today and dropped a 3-0 decision to the Eagles. The scores were 10-25, 13-25, and 17-25. During the first two matches, the Lakers struggled to get going as they committed several unforced errors. The scores were not indicitive of the play though as there were several long rallies where both teams made many strong defensive plays to keep the rally alive. Unfortunately for the Lakers, they were unable to get that one hit which would spark a run. The Lakers continued to battle though as evidenced by the final game. In the final game, when the Eagles would go ahead by 4 or 5 points, the Lakers would answer by scoring a couple of points in a row. Just when you thought Lakeland was about to go on a run, they would committ an unforcd error or get called for touching the net or a lift. Despite the scores, the Lakers efforts and attitudes represented well; now it's about watching them make that next play.

Erica Merth led Lakeland with 7 kills and 3 blocks. Kaitlynn Minarik also had a strong game with 5 kills and a block. Allison Hendrick was a key contributor today as she lifted the teams level of play with her positivity and effort.

Watts' Word: "We continue to put ourselves in a position to move forward, but then make an error which we have not been able to overcome. In the 3rd game, we really talked about just letting loose a bit and having some fun. We can't worry about everything else going on - we just need to relax and play. We have talent - we need to trust it."

Next Up:  The Lakers will play host to league foe Cuyahoga Community College on Wednesday (10/4) in Laker Gym. The match is scheduled to start at 6:00 PM. Admission is free.
