Lakers Fall to Jayhawks in Overtime

MUSKEGON, Mich – The Lakeland Community College men's soccer team was defeated Saturday (Sept.17) by Muskegon Community College. The Lakers lost in overtime 3-2

The Jayhawks opened the scoring in the first half when Kane Wilkinson found the back of the net to give Muskegon an early 1-0 advantage. The Lakers responded later in the first half when Raymond Salukombo (Cleveland, Ohio / Lincoln West) scored an unassisted goal to tie the game at one goal apiece. The game remained tied at the intermission

The Lakers took the lead in the second half as Salukombo scored his second goal of the game off an assist by Cory Childress (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid), to give Lakeland a 2-1 advantage. Later in the half the Jayhawks tied the game when Miguel Flores scored an unassisted goal. The game remained tied at the end of regulation, and the match continued into overtime.

The overtime period was won on a golden goal when Jubenal Rodriguez scored for Muskegon, and the Jayhawks won, 3-2.

The Lakers will be back in action tomorrow (Sept. 18) when they travel to take on Lake Michigan at 1 p.m.
